Our Background

Thief of Hearts Alpaca Stud, nestled in the foot hills of the Tararua Rangers just south of Palmerston North, is owned and managed by me, Eric Lister, and my wife Gaye.

Pictured right is a picture of myself and Gaye receiving the FMG Excellence Award in August 2006.

Why the Name "Thief of Hearts"?
Once you get your first Alpacas you will find out that they actually steal your heart away and you just want more...

We have been involved in the Alpaca Industry for a relatively short time compared with how long Alpacas have now been in New Zealand. We first started looking at Alpacas back in 1996 and had our first animals at our place in November 1998.

Like a lot of people we looked and researched for a long time before we decided to buy our very first Alpacas and have continued to build on this knowledge of the animals and the industry. Today, our property is designed specifically for the breeding and raising of Alpacas.

We also own and operate the largest pet shop in the Manawatu which keeps us both pretty busy. We first set up "Wet Pets" just over 15 years ago and then 5 years ago we set up "A Touch of Country Pet Centre". Both shops are now under the same roof at 729 Tremaine Avenue Palmerston North, and on the Internet at www.PetsUnlimited.co.nz. Gaye also breeds Ragdoll Cats which takes up the rest of her time, and then some more! You can find out more about Gaye's Ragaffairo Ragdolls by visiting her website at www.RagdollCats.co.nz.

As we are in the Pet Industry we know how people will fall in love with these magical creatures called Alpacas once they discover how wonderful they are to handle and work with.

Our Future with Alpacas

We believe that the future of Alpacas as an investment and as a fibre producing animal is massive, both here in New Zealand and also on the world markets. People all over the world are looking for natural products and a lifestyle to go along with this.

We intend to make Alpacas our retirement plan. We, along with many others, will be able to breed and sell quality animals, maintain our lifestyle and enjoy life to the fullest and all the while enjoy the peace and joy that these animals bring to us.

We are really looking forward to the day that we can turn a dream into a reality in that we will be able to work full time with these amazing animals.

We welcome you to contact us or visit us if you would like to make Alpacas part of your future.
